When John Stevens left his last 'real' job he was aiming to create a flexible work arrangement allowing him to take on projects of all kinds, collaborating with people he knows and trusts:
"So many of the best designers and technicians I know are frustrated in the corporate workplace. A lot of them have opted to freelance, but still prefer to work with friends and associates they trust. A few of us started to work together, so it made sense to form a loose collective.
Slackers? Far from it. They are all experienced, disciplined professionals. They just want the flexibility to pursue creative work. That variety is what stimulates us. It makes us better."
A graduate of King's College, London and the Royal College of Art, John was Head of Design at Netdecisions (now Agilisys) for four and a half years, working with such clients as Hewlett Packard, Diageo / Guinness UDV, emap, Thomson Travel Group, McDonald's, British Gas, Jarvis, Agilisys, American President Lines, the AA, and Exel Logistics. John is a member of The Usability Professionals' Association, and recently began a PhD research studentship with University of Cambridge, supported by Arup.
That depends on the work. There are illustrators, copywriters, web designers, animators, photographers and programmers. Get in touch and we can discuss it.
"What if we just work with people we trust? People we like? Experts we know will do a great job?"
